Experiment for pewter’s live competition
‘Roaring twenties’ was the theme for this year’s pewter’s live competition. The roaring 20th period starts from 1920 and ends in 1929. Based on my research, surrealism movement happened during that time. I decide to create pewter jewellery that creates surreal visual illusion when attach to body.
I was inspired by Chris Taylor’s ‘something is missing’ glass sculpture. Its slightly twisted form shows an optical illusion that can be used in a bracelet. A collage was made based on this idea two cubes were attached to a sphere on both sides. This shape combination creates the surreal twisting visual effect. To test out its scale a paper cut off was made. When I place it on my arm the surreal feeling was not as strong as the collage. I decide to seal its edges turn the flat shapes into a 3D form. Once the shape transformed into a form the twisted illusion is more obvious. However, it needs some surreal surface texture. I might stick paper collage when the bracelet produced in pewter.
