political message

26th Oct

I keep reading the news and inspired by some of the texts. When I quickly scan through some lines or headings some objects suddenly pump to my mind. The first design was inspired by the news on the 18th, which saying Brexit will keep delaying until three years later. Personally I think Brexit will never ends its already last for 3 years. It seems like a calendar that kept all future dates, with this in mind I create a wheel with 12 teeth coming out representing 12 months.  The wheel keeps rotating represents the fact that Brexit keeps delaying. Its like the wheel will never stop turning.

Another news saying that once they get Brexit done Northern Ireland will become independent. When I looked at the map of England a rabbit shape appear to me. The main part seems like rabbit’s body as well as Ireland is rabbits’ tail. Brexit can be a dog which tracing and biting off rabbit’s tail. I will keep developing this idea into a brooch or a badge.

Bejeweled: Freemasonry Badge exhibition

20th Oct

I went to the Freemasonry’s badge exhibition. I was inspired by few pieces from their main collection. The ashlar supported by a Lewis and tripod is really three-dimensional because the ashlar was hanging in 45 degreed angles especially when I looked at the Lewis and Tripod that reminds me of the wheels and cables transporting weight.

Based on that idea I can up with a kinetic necklace design. By turning the handle making the chain moves and letting the pendants rotate. Wearer can rotate the chain to change pendants in this case the pendants also can be political messages.

I’ve come up with another idea that is containing some circular plates inside a hollow ball when people open up the ball they can unfold the plates read messages from them.

Interactive jewelry design

5th Oct

I did research on Rebecca Kitching’s interactive jewellery. Most of her pieces are moveable. By looking at her works I presume she is using Three D print technique because those tiny none geometrical forms were fixed to the hollow plate.

This could only done by 3D printer. I went to the workshop get to know that there are mainly two types of printing material PLA and Acrylic. PLA has lower melting point than acrylic. However PLA may produce rough texture on the object. Its may take more time to sand and polish the final object. Before I decide to use which material, a 3D Drawing was produced based on my idea about brexit. The kinetic ring with small units move up and down inspired me. I transform those units into thumbs creating a visual sense that people holds opposite ideas about brexit. It is really difficult to get it right as same as hole two thumbs in the same position.
